Osibisa

Osibisa took shape under the guidance of Teddy Osei, the Ghanaian sax player, composer, and drummer who relocated to London in order to pursue formal music studies. One of the earliest African ensembles to secure broad international recognition, the group combined African rhythms—above all highlife—with Caribbean elements, turning heads as a major sensation across the mid-1970s. Although fresh recording sessions have grown scarce, the band’s following has endured to the present. Osei died on January 14, 2025, at the age of 87.
