Ostinato

Ostinato emerged in 1997 as a Virginia and Washington, D.C.-based trio featuring Jeremy Arn on vocals and bass, David Hennessy on guitar, and Matthew Clark. The following year the group issued its independently funded debut, Unusual Signal. Live appearances remained infrequent over the ensuing period, allowing the band to cultivate a devoted regional audience gradually. Only in 2004 did the musicians commit to tape their second album, Left Too Far Behind; two years later they delivered the follow-up, Chasing the Form. Across these three recordings the ensemble consistently eluded straightforward classification, drawing instead on a wide array of disparate influences that blended elements of alternative, progressive, ambient, and post-rock.
