Hailing from Mississippi, Otto Virgil—whose surname actually seems to have been Virgial—cut two 78 rpm singles for Bluebird Records in Chicago on Halloween 1925. The couplings were “Little Girl in Rome” b/w “Bad Notion Blues” and “Got the Blues About Rome” b/w “Seven Year Itch.” Those four sides, distinguished by relatively measured vocals and competently ragged guitar playing in a late Delta style, constitute Virgil’s entire recorded output.
