Biography
Emerging from the California punk outfit Slovenly, which issued recordings on the influential SST imprint during the 1980s, Overpass formed once that ensemble completed its final album in 1992. Guitarist and singer Tom Watson, bassist Scott Ziegler, and Rob Holzman—who had previously played drums in Saccharine Trust—then chose to develop songs through a tighter, more interdependent group process. The resulting self-titled debut appeared on SST’s New Alliance subsidiary, and the follow-up album Manhattan (Beach) was finished in 1994.
