Biography
Born in Norway in 1957, keyboardist and New Age composer Øystein Sevåg started piano instruction at five years old. During his teenage years he performed on bass with a rock ensemble before circling back to classical training and enrolling in piano, flute, and composition courses at the Music Conservatory of Oslo. The arrival of synthesizer technology in the 1980s drew his focus toward electronic forms, leading to the independent 1989 release of his debut album Close Your Eyes and See. After five years of studio work, the record gradually climbed Billboard’s New Age chart and earned him a contract with Windham Hill, which issued the 1993 follow-up Link. Two years afterward he delivered Global House, an album shaped by fresh attention to acoustic instrumentation and worldbeat elements; the 1996 collaboration Visual, recorded with guitarist Lakki Patey, came next. He then moved to the Hearts of Space roster and reappeared in 1997 with the well-received album Bridge.
