Biography
Painting Daisies originated in early 1995 when Rachelle Van Zanten on guitar and vocals joined forces with Daisy Blue Groff, also handling guitar and vocals, to form an acoustical duo. The project remained dormant until the addition of Carolyn Fortowsky on bass and Kim Gryba on drums finally launched the group. Their initial recordings yielded lyrics centered on cross dressing and sheep herding, and the debut album Flambescence appeared in 1998 after the quartet completed a cross-country tour throughout Canada. Upon settling back in Edmonton, the members tracked their follow-up effort Fortissimo, which they self-released in July 2000. Phonography, produced by Joby Baker, surfaced in 2006 once the band had already disbanded.
