Glen Mills, Pennsylvania’s Pale Divine—distinct from the unrelated nineties band sharing that moniker—draw their sound in equal measure from the authentic doom of Sweden’s Candlemass and the later, psychedelic-leaning recordings of Chicago’s Trouble, delivering an unusually vigorous approach to a style typically defined by its lethargy. Vocalist and guitarist Greg Diener joined forces with drummer Darin McCloskey to establish the group in 1997; bassist Jim Corl completed the lineup the next year. Their first full-length effort, Thunder Perfect Mind, appeared to favorable notices in 2001, after which the trio aligned with Martyr Music to issue the nearly equally praised 2004 album Eternity Revealed.
