Biography
Palomar came together as an indie rock outfit in 1998, its founding lineup consisting of Rachel Warren, Sasha Alcott, and Matt Hauser. The group enlisted Television’s Fred Smith to help issue its independently released, self-titled debut in 1999. Christina Prostano, who had previously played in Warren’s earlier project Trixie Belden, came aboard just before the CMJ Music Marathon Showcase in fall 2000. Sasha departed soon after, prompting Sarah Brockett of Philadelphia rock band Overlord to step in on her behalf. Over the ensuing two years Palomar performed throughout the Northeastern United States, appearing on bills alongside the Strokes, Clinic, Luna, Burning Airlines, and the Microphones. The band’s second album, Palomar II, surfaced in summer 2002; Matt Hauser exited immediately afterward. Dale W. Miller took his place, and the revised lineup delivered Palomar III: Revenge of Palomar during summer 2004.
