Biography
The indie rock outfit Panda & Angel hails from Seattle and consists of Josh Wackerly on guitar, Carrie Murphy handling guitar and vocals, Zaun Zehner on drums, Laura Enderle playing bass, and Kara Kikuchi on keyboards. The group's name derives from a former associate of Wackerly's—a musician who descended into addiction known as Panda—along with Panda's partner Angel. This quintet, characterized by its moody and melancholic sound, assembled in 2004. Prior to this, Wackerly had been part of the Suicide Squeeze band S, whereas Murphy had appeared with Touchdown Eagle. Within the initial half-year of their formation, the band started taking top billing at local Seattle venues and nearby spots. Into 2005, they shared bills alongside acts such as Wolf Parade, Band of Horses, the Elected, Crystal Skulls, and Maria Taylor. By the close of the year, they secured a contract with Jade Tree and entered Avast! Studios to lay down tracks for their first release. Their EP, titled Panda & Angel, came out in July 2006.
