Biography
Having been raised in Austin, Charles Roberts—known professionally as Papa Chuk—cultivated deep interests in hip-hop and reggae. Dancehall textures surface throughout The Badlands, the rapper’s first album issued by Pendulum/ERG. On the project he confronts societal ills, including isolation in “The Desolate One,” child abuse in “Lord Have Mercy,” and the struggles of African Americans in “Niggahs Will Be Niggahs.”
