Paper Doll ranked among the many fleeting acts guided by Patrick Adams and Peter Brown, the celebrated disco visionaries who launched Harlem’s P&P imprint along with several affiliated labels during the mid-1970s. Brown handled production duties on the “Get Down Boy” single, which appeared in 1979 via the Heavenly Star imprint. Brisk female vocals, a sharply coiled synth motif, unusual drum processing, and refined string accents defined the track, which featured one of the faster paces to emerge from the P&P stable. The recording also stands as one of the collective’s overlooked gems that might well have succeeded on progressive stations worldwide. Although its original pressing has become nearly unobtainable, Counterpoint later featured the cut on the 1997 anthology Disco Juice, a collection devoted to the duo’s independent productions.
