Biography
Papillion delights audiences as a Cajun musician and storyteller by weaving tales and melodies drawn from Creole and Cajun traditions. Through these performances he illuminates the heritage and culture of the Cajuns while clarifying their customs and the French language they speak. For nearly two decades he has educated youngsters via his songs. The “International Environmental People Who Care Award” was bestowed on him in recognition of the children’s program “Kids Can Change the World.”
His 1995 album Cajun Music for Kids offers young listeners an instructive yet lively experience through its distinctive instrumental palette, featuring the rub board, accordions, tit fere (triangle), fiddle, spoons, drums, guitars, flute and saxophone. Children’s voices provide much of the accompaniment, heightening the sense of fun and engagement, while the album’s spoken French segments deliver clear and appealing translations of key phrases.
