Known for his confrontational style and fearless audience interactions, the late standup comedian Patrice O'Neal appears in discographies solely via the posthumous album Mr. P, which entered the Top 40 in 2012. Although born in New York City, O'Neal grew up in Boston, where he first honed his craft on the local comedy circuit before heading back to N.Y.C. to secure a steady slot at the Comedy Cellar. Subsequent relocation to the West Coast brought an acting part on The Office along with a writing position at the WWE, after which another return to New York placed him on the panel of Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn and turned him into a frequent voice on the Opie and Anthony Show. Just as momentum built, O'Neal experienced a stroke in late 2011 and passed away nearly a month afterward. Accolades ranging from Chris Rock to Amy Schumer confirmed his status as a true "comedian's comedian," while the chart performance of Mr. P in 2012 underscored the depth of his dedicated following.
