Biography
Patricia Shih has built parallel paths of accomplishment across folk music and children's entertainment. Numerous other performers have covered her songs, while she has contributed as a guest to assorted children's anthology releases.
Although born in New York City, she spent her formative years in Maryland and San Francisco. She first trained as a visual artist, completing a BFA in painting at Lone Mountain College in California, yet the attraction of a musical vocation ultimately prevailed.
Her initial recording for adult listeners, Leap of Faith, appeared on Flying Fish in 1988. Two years afterward she issued her first children's project, Big Ideas, on the independent Glass Records label she founded. Several tracks from that album, notably "The Color Song" and "Eating Is Fun, Eating Is Serious," later resurfaced on compilation releases.
Making Fun, her second children's album, followed in 1995 and contained multiple new compositions delivered in her characteristically buoyant manner. Throughout this period Shih sustained an intensive schedule of performances across the United States. She also gained wide visibility as host of the Cablevision series Tell Me a Story.
