Biography
The French cellist Patrick Langot maintains parallel paths on both period and contemporary instruments, encompassing works composed across four centuries. He completed two diplomas at the Conservatoire de Paris under Eva Descaves, Erwan Fauré, Jean-Marie Gamard, and Henri Demarquette, later obtaining a specialized qualification in historical cello performance at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris with David Simpson; the Foundation of France and the Royaumont Foundation both provided scholarship assistance. In 1999 he established the Quintette Syntonia, an ensemble that continued performing into the mid-2020s, earned the Tina Mooni Prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Florence, and held a residency at the Singer-Polignac Foundation between 2012 and 2017. The group worked directly with Henri Dutilleux, Tôn-Thât Tiêt, and Olivier Greif; Langot’s first appearance on disc occurred on a Zig Zag Territoires release devoted to Greif’s The Battle of Agincourt.
During the 2010s his activity on Baroque cello intensified as principal cellist with Les Musiciens du Louvre under Marc Minkowski and with Orfeo 55 under Nathalie Stutzmann, while he also performed as guest artist with numerous other period-instrument ensembles. That association with Orfeo 55 produced the 2014 recording Handel: Heroes from the Shadows. On the modern side, Langot contributed cello, arrangements, cover artwork, and original poetry to Elodie Fonnard’s 2015 album Prévert & Kosma: Chansons. His debut solo recital, Præludio, appeared on Klarthe in 2019, and in 2020 the Quintette Syntonia joined soprano Maya Villanueva and cellist Emmanuelle Bertrand for a Harmonia Mundi disc of chamber works by Benoît Menut. In 2024 he returned on Evidence Classics with Alas, a program of Argentine pieces performed by the Orchestre de Lutetia under Alexis Cárdenas.
