Biography
Born in Antigua in 1964 to a father serving in the Navy, Patsy Moore grew up amid frequent family relocations during her early years. Those varied cultural exposures later shaped a sound that blended African and Caribbean rhythms with folk, soul, Latin, rock, pop and funk. Named valedictorian of her high school, she entered the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she joined a band, performed vocals, composed original material and played keyboards throughout her studies. Upon completing a broadcast journalism degree, she committed fully to music and began refining her skills. An invitation from acquaintance David Mullen to provide backup vocals on a demo led her to collaborate more widely as a writer and performer. She soon joined the McSpadden Group as a staff songwriter, which quickly resulted in a recording contract with Warner Alliance. The label issued her debut album, Regarding the Human Condition, in 1992, followed two years later by The Flower Child's Guide to Love and Fashion.
