Biography
Although primarily recognized for standup comedy, Paul Gilmartin had earlier performed in numerous Chicago-area stage productions and trained at the esteemed Second City Theatre. His greatest strengths emerged on television through appearances on Politically Incorrect, VH1's The List, HBO Comedy Showcase, and MTV's Half-Hour Comedy Hour, as well as live standup sets at the 1995 Montreal Comedy Festival and the 2000 Aspen Comedy Festival. Acting credits also include HBO's Not Necessarily the Elections and a role in Sketchapalooza at the 1996 Aspen Comedy Festival. Beyond performing, Gilmartin wrote material for the Emmy Awards and for comedian and television host Dennis Miller, received a CableAce nomination for co-hosting Dinner and a Movie, and wrote poetry while hosting a weekly Sunday afternoon radio program devoted to the art form on the site www.comedyworld.com.
