Biography
Born in Norfolk, England, Millns launched his musical path at the piano inside blues and soul groups whose sounds have continued to color his work. Relocating to London placed him in bands alongside Alexis Korner, Eric Burdon, Bert Jansch, Jo Ann Kelly and Chicago bluesman Louisiana Red. Philips issued his first solo album in the mid-1970s. The years that followed found him dividing his time between original material and session or touring work for others. Germany called in 1979, where he scored the film Gibbi West Germany. He has kept a firm foothold there through appearances on television programs such as Rock Palast and through concerts at leading European festivals as well as their British counterparts, among them the Edinburgh Arts and Cambridge Folk Festivals. Later soundtrack assignments arrived from the BBC, Thames and Channel Four, while performers including Elkie Brooks have recorded his songs, notably “Too Much Between Us” on Pearls 2. An impressive roster of colleagues—Bert Jansch, Ralph McTell, Christine Collister and musicians from Pentangle and Fairport Convention—appeared on his 1994 album Against The Tide.
