Born and raised in Indiana, power pop singer/songwriter Paxton lost his mother at age 12, inheriting from her a deep love of music that shaped his path. A few years afterward he abandoned his studies, slung a guitar over his shoulder, and drifted from town to town, taking whatever work he could find while playing the odd club date. By the middle of the 1970s he had turned professional as a dancer and toured with several national companies. Eventually he relocated to Nashville hoping to break into country music, yet within twelve months he reversed course and returned to New York City. There a performance at the Bitter End drew the notice of executive Nat Weiss, who revived the Nemperor imprint and offered Paxton a multi-album contract. Supported by guitarists David Matos and Rick Kolster, bassist Randy Jordan, and drummer Rob Cournoyer, he released his self-titled debut album in 1998.
