P.E. formed in New York from overlapping personnel in Pill and Eaters, merging post-industrial electronics, arty post-punk textures, and cautiously optimistic poetry across the 2020 debut album Person. The more danceable, pop-influenced follow-up The Leather Lemon surfaced in 2022.

Veronica Torres, Jonathan Campolo, and Benjamin Jaffe—core members of the Brooklyn post-punk experimentalists Pill—initiated a series of improvisational performances alongside Eaters contributors Jonathan Schenke and Robert Jones in the late 2010s. The five players entered the studio together in July 2018, converting fragmentary electronics, blurting saxophones, and giddy, sometimes confrontational vocals into quasi-pop songs. Person reached completion in spring 2019, after which the single “Top Ticket” emerged later that year alongside a Liars remix. Wharf Cat Records released the album in March 2020; limited vinyl copies included the bonus cassette Sick, Sad, Fun!. The EP The Reason for My Love followed in 2021, preceding the arrival of second full-length The Leather Lemon in 2022.
