Biography
After the Sic Alps split in 2013, Mike Donovan assembled the Peacers to pursue a sound that merged psychedelic drift, lo-fi pop structures, and raw garage-punk edges. Working with an ear for tuneful hooks alongside abrasive guitar textures, the group crafted material that remained inviting beneath its rough execution. Their 2015 self-titled debut presented a loose yet appealing sprawl, while the 2021 follow-up Blexxed Rec tightened the arrangements and heightened the drive without softening the band’s unruly character.
Donovan first explored duo ideas alongside guitarist Eric Park before committing to a full band. The earliest Peacers configuration placed Wendy Farina behind the drums and enlisted Ty Segall as producer and multi-instrumentalist. When Donovan’s personal relationship with Farina ended, former Oh Sees drummer Mike Shoun took over percussion duties; as Donovan later recalled, “[Farina] wanted to take time to concentrate on not being my girlfriend.” Donovan, Shoun, and Segall recorded the debut album, issued by Drag City in July 2015. The band shared bills with Elisa Ambrogio and performed regularly throughout the San Francisco Bay Area until Segall departed in 2016. Donovan then expanded the lineup into a quartet by adding Shayde Sartin and Bo Moore, and the revised group delivered its second Drag City release, Introducing the Crimsmen, in June 2017. The same four musicians reconvened for Blexxed Rec, emphasizing sharper dynamics and stronger melodic focus while retaining the abrasive sonic palette.
