Pecker serves as the stage alias adopted by Catalan indie electronic musician Raul Usieto Aquilue. Hailing from Spain’s Aragon region yet long resident in Barcelona—the hub of the country’s vibrant indie pop community—he draws inspiration from an eclectic range that spans LCD Soundsystem, Fatboy Slim, and Daft Punk alongside British twee-pop outfits such as the Field Mice, Belle & Sebastian, and Saint Etienne. Initially performing under the moniker Pequeño Pecker, a name whose literal translation is “small penis” and whose implications the artist fully acknowledges, Aquilue made his recording debut in 2004 via the album Diez y 1 Galaxia, which included the track “La Noche No Es Para Dormir.” After trimming the alias to Pecker, he issued the singles “Souvenir” in 2006 and “Encantadora Lunatica” in 2007. That same year he left the WEA dance-pop imprint East West Records for Nacional Records, a more prominent Warner Bros.-linked label specializing in Latin pop and rock en español and home to acts including Manu Chao and Mexican Institute of Sound. Teaming with fellow Barcelona-based labelmates the Pinker Tones, Pecker delivered his follow-up full-length, 2 y las Nadadoras, during summer 2007.
