Born in Northern New York as the youngest of four siblings, Penny Jo Pullus came into the world in a location her parents sometimes dispute by claiming Canada instead. Local performances preceded her move to Austin, TX, the rapidly expanding music hub where her distinctive style developed gradually and consistently over time. She also became a member of the Trailer Trash Band. Austin radio outlets and alternative country/roots rock shows gave favorable attention to her first EP, Lucky #7. Further attention followed from her showcases at the South By Southwest Festival. Comparisons to Gram Parsons and Tammy Wynette surfaced once the singer issued her initial full-length album, Acme Volcano. Pullus brought out My Turn to Howl in April 2002, an album that enlisted numerous Austin-based musicians, among them Ian Mclagan, the onetime Small Faces keyboardist. While her primary performance activity remains centered in the Austin region, she has extended her reach to additional domestic and overseas markets.
