Biography
Perennial, a New England outfit that calls itself a modernist punk ensemble, produces a theatrically explosive fusion of 1960s organ soul and guitar-driven indie rock. The band’s first release, Symmetry of Autumn Leaves, came out in 2017, while In the Midnight Hour followed in 2022 and expanded their sonic palette. Art History arrived in 2024.
Based in Massachusetts, the group coalesced during the 2010s around singer/guitarist Chad Jewett, singer/organist Chelsey Hahn, and drummer Will Mulhern. Their influences range from D.C. punk acts such as Q and Not U and the Make-Up to assorted 1960s soul ensembles, Krautrock units, and garage rock forebears; after launching with Symmetry of Autumn Leaves in 2017, they issued In the Midnight Hour in 2022, incorporating strands of free jazz, and then unveiled Art History in 2024.
