South London’s Permahorn fuse shoegaze textures with slowcore dynamics to shape songs that balance emotional release with underlying optimism, echoing the approach of Low, Codeine, Red House Painters, and Galaxie 500. Scottish-born St. Pauly, who supplies vocals, bass, and keyboards, joined forces with Serbian native Jexy on vocals, bass, and melodica; their joint songwriting and recording began only months after Jexy first took up the bass, at a moment when both were ending long-term relationships. Those personal upheavals fed directly into the pair’s introspective material, which drew the attention of veteran indie producer Kramer after they uploaded a single demo. Working from his Noise Miami studios, Kramer handled mixing and mastering, resulting in Permahorn’s first album, My Blood Carries My Dreams Away, issued on his Shimmy-500 label in late 2017.
