In his home state of Texas, Perry Cain gained greater recognition through his on-air persona, "Daddy Deep Throat." Serving as a radio announcer noted for his deep, gravelly delivery, he became a regular presence at Houston's KCOH during the first half of the 1950s—a station formerly billed as "Texas' First All Negro [sic]Station." Beyond the airwaves, he issued several singles credited to himself, among them the pairing of "My Heart Belongs To You" b/w "Big Time Grandma," which marked the inaugural output from local imprint Eddie's Records in 1948. Though his time in the music industry proved brief, given that his voice lent itself more readily to spoken commentary than to wax, Cain nonetheless made a lasting impression.
