Leicester-born Pete Morton stands out for crafting some of the most intense British folk music. He developed his abilities through various punk groups during his school years and applies a comparable edge when tackling traditional numbers as well as original pieces grounded in folk traditions. The British music magazine Froots has described Morton as "amongst the best that the British roots music scene has produced in living memory." Drawing inspiration from Bob Dylan, he shifted his focus to acoustic styles during the late 1980s. After relocating to Manchester, Morton promptly secured a deal with the Harbourtown record label. His first release, Frivulous Love, earned widespread critical acclaim. Following the 1988 issuance of his sophomore effort One Big Joke, he embarked on an initial tour across North America.

In addition to his individual work, Morton collaborates with the group Urban Folk, joining accordionist and keyboardist Roger Wilson along with fiddler Simon Edwards for live shows. He created the album Hunting the Heart alongside fiddler Tom McConville and accordionist Andy Cutting; the project includes a joint performance of the traditional piece "Drink to Me Only With Thine Eyes" alongside Julie Murphy.
