Within the Sunderland-rooted sibling pairing known as Field Music, Peter Brewis has built a substantial body of work in artful indie pop characterized by its focus, adventurous spirit, and sustained interest. Alongside his younger brother David, he established the group during the mid-2000s and soon emerged as a leading figure in intelligent English pop through precisely assembled records that combined structural sophistication with an ear for surprising yet melodic hooks. His comprehensive abilities as songwriter, producer, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist have defined both Field Music releases and separate endeavors such as the Week That Was and You Tell Me. Brewis issued Blowdry Colossus in 2023, an eclectic collection that is largely instrumental and marks the first appearance under his own name.

While growing up in Sunderland, England, Brewis cultivated tastes spanning classical music through classic rock and acquired skills on numerous instruments, with particular emphasis on guitar and drums. Early, tentative groups, one of which involved a period drumming for the Futureheads, preceded the official launch of Field Music in 2004. As two distinctive yet complementary singer-songwriters, Peter and David Brewis shaped a melodic, artful strain of indie rock that drew widespread critical approval. During a pause between band albums in 2008, Peter completed his initial solo outing, the Week That Was. Field Music subsequently delivered a series of well-regarded records on their enduring Memphis Industries imprint: Field Music (Measure) in 2010, the Mercury Prize-nominated Plumb in 2012, and Open Here in 2018.

Outside core band commitments, Peter pursued further collaborations, joining Maxïmo Park’s Paul Smith for the jazz- and classical-inspired Frozen by Sight in 2014 and Admiral Fallow’s Sarah Hayes for You Tell Me in 2019. After Field Music’s Flat White Moon appeared in 2021, the Brewis brothers founded their own imprint, Daylight Savings, to house assorted solo and side projects beyond the main Field Music catalog. Drawing influence from Yellow Magic Orchestra and Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Peter created his debut proper solo album, an almost entirely instrumental work titled Blowdry Colossus, which surfaced in October 2023.
