R&B vocalist Peter Hadar, born Peter Winstead, Jr., spent his formative years inside a supportive Newark, New Jersey home. As the offspring of a gospel musician, he felt an instinctive pull toward sound yet initially channeled his efforts into the fashion industry, working as both stylist and salesman. Once employment ended, he funneled that same creative drive into songwriting and performance instead. With engineering help from Mike Genato, he composed and tracked his first project, Memories of the Heart, issuing the album himself in August 2006. The recording showcased his husky yet tender delivery—positioned between the timbres of Jaheim and the Foreign Exchange’s Phonte—while adding a modestly unconventional slant to adult contemporary R&B. Hadar steadily expanded his audience via personal recommendations and digital channels, issuing Well Dressed for the Art Show in 2008—the same year Urb magazine placed him in its annual Next 100 list—the She’s 4 Months EP in 2009, and Take Off Victoria in 2011, all through his own Cool Weirdo imprint.
