Biography
Peter Karp, a compelling roots-oriented folk and blues composer, vocalist, guitarist, and keyboardist, divided his formative years between Leonia, NJ, and a trailer park in Enterprise, AL. As a teenager he entered New York’s local music circuit with They Came from Houses, the art-blues-punk group that fused disparate styles. He turned down both that ensemble and an offered contract from Polygram Records, then spent the ensuing decade on the road and raising a family. Karp enrolled at Rider University in Lawrenceville, NJ, and later attended film school at New York University, yet earned no degree from either school. He launched his own Manhattan production company, Total Picture, before resuming live performances in the late ’90s alongside the Roadshow Band. The group documented a concert with Live at the American Roadhouse in 2000 and followed it with Roadshow in 2002. Signing to Backbender Records in 2004 yielded The Turning Point that same year, an album featuring ex-Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor. Karp then joined Blind Pig Records, which issued Shadows and Cracks in 2007. He now divides his time between Nashville and New Jersey. A partnership with Sue Foley produced the joint Blind Pig album He Said, She Said, released in March of 2010.
