Biography
Much like fellow American singer-songwriters such as David Baerwald, Peter Kingsbery has received scant attention within his native country. Following completion of his composition degree, Kingsbery secured opportunities to contribute as a writer and vocalist to recordings by other performers, including The Allman Brothers and Stephanie Mills during the early 1980s. His primary recognition stems from his involvement with Cock Robin, whose debut album from 1985 achieved only modest success domestically yet resonated strongly across Europe, especially in France, where he maintains a devoted audience and currently resides. Upon the release of three albums with the group, Kingsbery embarked on a solo path under the French Barclay label, resulting in three varied albums, among which A Different Man from 1991 proved most commercially viable while Pretty Ballerina, issued six years afterward, offered the greatest stylistic breadth. In the intervals between his solo projects, he achieved his most notable success outside Cock Robin via the track "Only The Very Best," which reached number two on the French charts in 1993, surpassed solely by the young performer Jordy; this piece originated from Tycoon, Tim Rice's English-language version of the theatrical production. Now beyond the age of fifty, Kingsbery persists in creating dynamic music that provokes thought among his followers, who anticipate forthcoming releases, including a French-language album and an additional collection of original studio recordings still pending final scheduling.
