Biography
Originating from upstate New York, singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Peter Silberman initiated experiments with home recording while still in his late teens. Records by the Microphones supplied a key influence, leading him to integrate elements of their lo-fi approach into the homemade textures he produced. He released his earliest solo material in 2006 under the name Antlers, a project that gradually developed into a complete and widely acclaimed indie band across the subsequent decade. Silberman contracted an advanced case of tinnitus in 2013 after extended periods of loud performances and sustained high volumes, resulting in acute sensitivity to sound—most notably the sound of his own speaking. He withdrew to a quiet, isolated location beyond the city’s din and devoted weeks to recovery. That stretch of silence and solitude shaped the minimal, sparsely arranged songs on his first proper solo album, Impermanence, issued in 2017.
