Pharaohs

In 2009 producers Alejandro Cohen and Samuel Cooper launched the Los Angeles-based disco/house outfit Pharaohs after encountering each other in a record store, where mutual purchases sparked an immediate rapport. The pair soon began performing across L.A. alongside a shifting roster of supporting players, later expanding to a trio with the addition of Suzanne Kraft. Together they cut their four-track debut EP, “Uhh Uhh,” for the influential local disco and house imprint 100% Silk, issuing it in October 2011. Throughout 2012 the group maintained a steady schedule of live dates while developing new material, returning to vinyl the following January with the Island Time 12" on ESP Institute. That release blended acoustic instrumentation and electronic hardware, enlisting Franco Falsini—formerly of the Italian prog-rock ensemble Sensations’ Fix—to contribute guitar parts. Their first full-length album, Replicant Moods, appeared shortly afterward on 100% Silk in April 2013.
