Born in Scotland, Phil Kay has pursued careers as a comedian, television presenter, and writer. His earliest stage breakthrough arrived in 1989, when he claimed victory in the “So You Think You’re Funny” competition at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival—the same year he launched his performing career and began a long run of awards and acclaim. Four years later he received the Best Stand Up Award at the British Comedy Awards. Over the following fifteen-plus years his live work continued alongside prominent television presenting duties on Phil Kay Feels..., Next Stop, Phil Kay, Edinburgh Nights, and the Montreal Festival of Fun. As a writer he contributed to multiple programs and served as warm-up man for Jonathan Ross’s Saturday Show and The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer.
