Biography
James Kavoussi serves as the creative force behind pHoaming Edison, functioning as both musician and engineer while maintaining a longstanding role in the experimental New York City ensemble Fly Ashtray. During the late 1980s, Kavoussi joined guitarist/singer/bassist John Beekman, guitarist Chris Thomas, bassist/guitarist Mike Anzalone, and drummer Eric Thomas to establish Fly Ashtray at Fordham University in the Bronx, NY. The band's debut effort, Nothing Left to Spill, collected an assortment of its initial recordings into an eclectic post-punk package. Beginning in 1995, Kavoussi issued the first pHoaming Edison album, Sold to the Highest Grady, through Dark Beloved Cloud. A follow-up titled Sold to the Second Highest Grady appeared the next year on the same label. With the arrival of the new millennium came Happy Nap Casino, widely regarded as pHoaming Edison's most accomplished recording; the work spanned lo-fi textures, noise passages, and psychedelic explorations while incorporating a version of "Theme From Casino Royale" alongside the George Harrison piece "Only a Northern Song" from the Yellow Submarine album.
