California singer/songwriter Pi Jacobs possesses an ability to craft scene-setting lyricism, evocative imagery, and storytelling songwriting that draws listeners in completely. Since the early 2000s she has remained active in music, shifting from initial experiments with pop toward a beat-driven strain of Americana that has taken clearer form both through continuous live performances and on studio releases including 2020’s Two Truths and a Lie and the 2024 album Soldier On.

Born in San Francisco, Jacobs began playing bass at age 15 and later earned a double major in bass and vocal performance while in college. During her time in New York she issued her earliest recordings under the name Pi, merging country-tinged songwriting with electronic beats and pop elements on the 2001 album Irrational and the 2004 release Beat Mining in Dark Places. Although she followed a pop direction for several years, her return to California prompted a return to Americana foundations, first heard on the 2013 EP Urbanicana and then explored further in the woodsy textures of the 2017 album A Little Blue.

Through her collaboration with drummer Butch Norton, Jacobs incorporated stronger rhythmic components into her work, resulting in the groove-heavy country style of Two Truths and a Lie and the stomping country-blues approach that defines Soldier On, issued on the Blackbird Record Label.
