Biography
Pierre Solot identifies his professional roles as “pianist, lecturer, radio host, teacher, actor, and author,” while also working as a theatrical designer, producer, musicologist, and composer. His musical engagements range widely: he gives solo recitals, appears regularly as an orchestral soloist, and performs chamber music as one member of Duo Solot. Among his recordings is the 2024 release Ernesto Lecuona: Piano Music.
Born in Brussels in 1983, Solot first trained with Véronique Delemazure at the Académie Musique de Jette. At sixteen he enrolled at the Centre Européen de Maîtrise pianistique Eduardo Del Pueyo, where Teresa Escudero guided his studies. He later attended the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, working with Burkhard Spinnler and Jean-Claude Vanden Eynden, and received first prizes in both piano and chamber music along with a master’s degree. Additional musicology diplomas came from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris, where he concentrated on early-twentieth-century North American repertoire and completed a master’s thesis on Scriabin. With pianist Stéphanie Salmin he formed Duo Solot, issuing its debut album of four-hand transcriptions of works by Smetana and Dvořák in 2016.
Solot has appeared in France, Belgium, Britain, and Iran. He collaborates frequently with the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège and maintains an ongoing partnership with actor Emmanuel De Candido, contributing as pianist, performer, and composer. In the latter capacity he designed and played for the production Cinéma à 4 Mains at the Théâtre Royal de Namur. He also delivers regular lectures on musical topics and published the novel La balade de Stiva Leko, which earned the best-first-novel award in a contest organized by Éditions oléronaises.
Further recordings include the 2023 Cypres Records recital Change, on which he accompanied violinist Elsa de Lacerda. In 2024 he issued Ernesto Lecuona: Piano Music on Fuga Libera and supplied the liner notes for Florian Noack’s album I Wanna Be Like You: The Piano Transcriptions.
