Pike Cavalero

Hailing from Almería on Spain’s southeastern coast, Pike Cavalero draws upon the classic sounds of 1950s American rock & roll and rockabilly. The Weekender EP appeared in late 2010, with his debut album Just a Matter of Manners! following in 2011. Both releases featured the Gentle Bandoleros—Al Dual, Javi Carrasco, and Antonio Quesada—and came out on the Malaga-based Sleazy label, which would issue the bulk of his later work. Two further EPs, Six Shooter Blues (2012) and Second Round (2013), arrived next, coinciding with his growing popularity on the European vintage and rock & roll weekender and festival circuit.

Issued as a solo recording, the 2014 LP Torro spotlighted a spirited rendition of Rosco Gordon’s 1957 Sun Records B-side as its title track, while the 10-inch vinyl edition included Warren Smith’s “Miss Froggie.” Like the debut, Torro was self-produced and contained one Spanish-language track among its rockin’ numbers. His first wholly Spanish-language release arrived in early 2015 with the single “Ahora Que Lo Tienes,” whose flipside offered a localized adaptation of the Cleftones’ “Little Girl of Mine” under the title “Mi Neña Pequeña.” Cavalero has also earned production credits on recordings by the Sun Rockets, the Blackland Farmers, and Matt & the Peabody Ducks.
