Biography
In late 2007 the Malmö, Sweden pop collective Pixie Carnation came into being after Tobias Hellkvist and Ola Pålsson started writing songs together inside Hellkvist’s home studio. Throughout the next twelve months the pair kept developing material while the lineup shifted repeatedly until bassist Lars Kjelldén, keyboardist Niklas Larsson, and drummer Kristoffer Rudberg joined permanently. Their debut EP Fresh Poems appeared in May 2009, revealing an anthemic sound that prompted comparisons to Bruce Springsteen and Arcade Fire. The band’s first full-length, The New World Record, had been scheduled for release on Tapete Records in 2011, yet an impasse arose between the group and the label just before retail copies were due—after advance promos had already circulated—leading the project to be shelved and the partnership dissolved. Two years of remixing and further overdubs followed before the completed album finally surfaced on the band’s new imprint, ACP Recordings, in mid-2013.
