Biography
Clarence Montgomery III, who performs as Playboy Tre, took his time establishing a presence as a nomadic figure in hip-hop and an expert spinner of rap narratives, known for his exceptional restraint, inside Atlanta’s thriving local circuit. His debut appearance on record occurred in 1998 under the alias Y.B.M. on the compilation So So Bass Def All-Stars, Vol. 3. Even as his rapid-fire humor quickly earned admiration from peers, he preferred to refine his skills gradually, handling uncredited tasks and contributing guest verses to YoungBloodz, Bohagon—with whom he created the group Georgia Durt—and B.o.B. Not until 2009 did he step forward more decisively with the mixtape Good Bye America: Tales of a Drunk Loner, an astute and rustic homage to the beginnings of crunk that received strong critical notice.
