Biography
The Latin rock outfit Playeros came together in Miami, FL, during 1986, assembled by percussionist Joedy Pauley alongside guitarists Scott Sherman and Carlos Fernández, saxophonist Richard Jay, bassist Al West, and drummer Martín Gallardo. Taking cues from Santana, War, and the Allman Brothers, the group forged a sound dominated by Western American rock, funk, and Afro-Cuban rhythms. Their album Funky Jazzy Latin Rock Band captured this blend, which later resurfaced on the 1999 follow-up Los Nietos de Miami.
