Originating in Mexico, the five-piece hardcore group Plaztik came together in the closing years of the 1990s through former participants in No Se Antarez, Bodka, and Livido. Their material centered on provocative societal themes rendered in a present-day heavy metal idiom, yielding the 1998 EP Dolor Interno, which José de la Mora produced, and the 1999 follow-up Llanto Perdido. A victory in a regional competition then granted them the chance to support the Mexican alternative band Santa Sabina. The ensemble next issued Escaridades in 2000.
