Serving as a fixture across the rock landscapes of Los Angeles and New Orleans, Pleasure Club emerged from the creative vision of singer/songwriter James Hall. The group takes its name from Hall's 1996 solo album and fuses his dark post-punk roots with an assertive rock and roll identity all his own. Bassist Grant Curry, already a collaborator on those earlier solo efforts, joined first, after which L.A. natives Marc Hutner and Michael Jerome completed the lineup. Drawing openly from their inspirations, the musicians reworked the gothic blues style associated with the Gun Club alongside the propulsive alternative rock of the Cult, all while preserving Hall's signature vocal delivery and stage command. The self-titled debut appeared in 2002 after the members had briefly pursued separate side endeavors.
