Poem Rocket formed in 1992 as a New York City trio whose immersive approach blends post-punk, noise, psych, and art rock while directing lyrics toward avant-garde themes. The members drew from an eclectic range of sources that include Suicide, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Brian Eno, and Steve Reich. Core personnel comprise multi-instrumentalists Sandra Gardner and Michael Peters, who are married, along with drummer Peter Gordon. Their debut outing, the 1995 compilation Felix Culpa, gathered scattered EP cuts and 7-inch sides. Three years afterward the band issued its first full-length album, Infinite Retry on Parallel Time Out, through the Matador subsidiary PCP Entertainment. After relocating to Atavistic, Poem Rocket delivered its second studio effort in 2000, the well-received concept album Psychogeography, which examined situationist ideas within city settings. A seven-year break followed before the ambitious double album Invasion appeared, marked by expansive atmospheres and existential themes. During the intervening period the musicians channeled their energies into separate projects. In 2024 Silver Girl Records issued Lend-Lease, an EP the group had tracked in 1999 and then set aside.
