Biography
Sandro Perri stands apart from typical ambient techno artists through his integration of acoustic instruments into shadowy atmospheric soundscapes, enhancing these creations with fitting textual and artistic components for his immersive Polmo Polpo output. This Toronto-based musician, who once studied jazz, first appeared under the Polmo Polpo moniker in 1999 via a split 12-inch release shared with Cog. Issued through his Audi Sensa imprint in a run of just 100 copies, the record marked his entry. Following a short period of work with the late Todd Fox under the Dot Wiggin name, Perri resumed Polmo Polpo activities with the January 2001 EP Acqua/Oarca, followed by Riva/Rottura in March 2002—both pressed in limited quantities. In the latter half of that year, he assembled the four tracks from those EPs along with additional ambient pieces and matching visual and rhetorical elements into the album The Science of Breathing, issued as a full-length on Substractif, a sublabel of Alien8 Recordings.
