Ponzoña Musical came together in 2004 within Mexico’s Durango region as a fresh duranguense outfit composed of photogenic young men. After promptly inking a deal with the American Show Latin imprint, the ensemble delivered its first full-length project, Puro Veneno Duranguense, in 2005; the set contained the well-received track “La Loca,” a number that later resurfaced on the follow-up, Son de Amores, issued in 2006. That sophomore effort also spotlighted the popular cut “Tanto La Quería” before Universal Music Group’s Machete Music division licensed it for wider distribution in 2007. Once reissued, Son de Amores marked the group’s initial Billboard entry, climbing to number 25 on the Top Latin Albums tally and number 11 on the Regional Mexican chart. Machete Music next unveiled the third album, ¡Puro Veneno...Compa! (2007), whose standout single “Tal Vez” rose into the Top 40 of the Hot Latin Tracks survey and remains the act’s biggest hit. In 2008 the ensemble issued the CD/DVD package Live from Mexico, capturing its live performance and revisiting earlier successes.
