Biography
The moniker Porn Sword Tobacco stands out as particularly mismatched and improbable for a musical endeavor. Its origins trace back to Henrik Jonsson, born in Sweden, who stumbled upon a store deep within a northern Swedish forest offering nothing but pornography, tobacco, weapons, and souvenirs. The peculiar establishment, including its young female attendant Fanny, shaped the atmosphere during later sessions at an isolated studio, where Jonsson’s 2004 debut album took shape alongside contributors Tommy Wu Shu, Patrik, and St:Redford. Incongruity persisted through song names like ‘Wife Beater’, ‘Riot Control’ and ‘Jeff Bronx The Heavy Hitter’, suggesting fiercer sounds than the actual reflective and ethereal compositions by Jonsson. Opening with patterns of clicks, pops, and sporadic xylophone elements, the record maintained an overall serene tone. Drawing from Sweden’s forest settings, it echoed the style of German electronica act Gas, whose creator Wolfgang Voigt aimed to ‘bring the German forest to the disco’.
