Biography
After Jane's Addiction, Perry Farrell launched Porno for Pyros, which merged art rock, punk, heavy metal, and funk into a single, piercing entity. The group's self-titled 1993 debut occasionally let Farrell's ambitions swell excessively, yielding several wildly self-indulgent conceptual works alongside direct rockers and pop songs. Initial sales proved strong, yet the album soon tumbled down the charts. While readying fresh Porno for Pyros material during 1994, Farrell resumed overseeing Lollapalooza—the traveling rock festival he had originated—for the first occasion since 1992. The band issued Good God's Urge in 1996.
Although Good God's Urge succeeded on both artistic and musical levels, the album fell off the charts soon after appearing. Former Minutemen/fIREHOSE bassist Mike Watt substituted for the departed Lenoble on the subsequent tour, while guitarist Dave Navarro made special surprise appearances on chosen dates, pleasing longtime Jane's Addiction followers. Once the tour concluded in early 1997—and after two Porno for Pyros tracks surfaced on the motion picture soundtracks for The Cable Guy and Private Parts—Farrell dissolved the group to concentrate on a solo recording career alongside occasional Jane's Addiction reunion performances.
