Biography
Nestled in a tiny coastal hamlet along the Celtic Sea in northern Cornwall, the English folk ensemble known as Port Isaac's Fisherman's Friends initiated their shoreline performances at twilight during summertime, entertaining both visitors and residents beginning in 1995. Rooted in seafaring legacy and longstanding spoken heritage while focusing on forebitters, shanties, and classic Cornish folk tunes, this ensemble of ten men operates without a designated frontman; instead, this lively crew—composed of fishermen, lifeboat crew, coastguards, construction workers, craftspeople, innkeepers, and retailers—alternate on lead vocals as the others provide harmonies. Having known one another since boyhood and honed their singing in the village Methodist chapel, the collective secured a recording contract with Universal toward the end of the 2000s and issued their self-titled first full-length record in 2010.
