Biography
In 2005, Van Pierszalowski, Cambria Goodwin, Caleb Nichols, and Joshua Barnhart established Port O'Brien in California, situating the band in the same unconventional alternative folk and indie rock territory occupied by Jason Molina, Will Oldham, and Pavement. Band members spend extended shifts at bakeries plus time aboard fishing boats and inside salmon canneries around Kodiak Island, Alaska, a reality that lent an appropriate title to their debut release on the American Dust label, The Wind and the Swell, which drew from sources as varied as Neil Young and Bright Eyes. Threadbare, sharing a related theme, appeared in 2009.
